It'd be great to have a NAV-only iPhone version for those of us whose cockpits are too tight to mount an iPad. The route would be planned on iPad / PC / Web and then synced to the iPhone app via the cloud.

Yes I agree, Skydemon on iPhone would be good. The screen is big enough and bright enough. I'm currently running other GPS software on iPhone 4

The Apple products are great devices, but are also expensive closed systems. Android has double the market share of Apple in the UK, is an open system and has a large and growing number of devices to run on, with many different screen sizes and prices. Apple has a choice of only two - an iPhone or an iPad. I hold no particular candle for either mega-corporation, but logic suggests that moving from obsolete Windows CE to Android would give the users of SD software the greatest range of hardware choices.

I can't really see us going to the effort of porting SkyDemon to a new platform (and it's a lot of effort) when that platform is a mobile phone. Do people really want to be navigating an aircraft using a mobile phone?

When it comes to tablets, Apple currently have Android beaten completely, at least within the GA community. If that should change, we'll probably do an Android version.

Well, I have happily been navigating IFR all over Europe on a mobile phone for years - an HTC HD2 - which has been completely reliable; the £6,000 Garmin 430 is relegated to driving the autopilot. Trouble is, with WM6.5 now obsolete, if the HD2 goes on the blink I cannot buy another, and I really like the capacitive screen and the datalink via the phone, neither of which is available on the Demon device. So without dissing the iPad, which as I agree is great, I think it would be worth the effort of porting the programme, because there's going to be a vast variety of hardware options running Android. I for one can't find the space for an iPad in my cockpit, and the iPhone is too small, in my view.

It actually would be very nice to have a lite version, or nav-only version available on iPhone and Android. It doesn't make sense to try and plan a route on these small devices, but it would be nice to be able to load the route in it and have it available during the flight (maybe as a backup to another system?).

The 'other' software guys just released something like that. Not saying you show follow every move they make, but since i also use there software i now have a backup for my portable Garmin 495. But i prefer Skydemon, so...

Tim - what about iPhone? Air Navigation Pro for iPhone sells great and iPhone is much more popular in smaller GA cockpits where iPad just doesnt fit well.

My answer above still stands. Furthermore, there are strong rumours that a mini 7" iPad will surface around October time.

A 7" ipad is an intriguing thought. I have plans to re-engine my Rans s6 and will be replacing the existing panel. A mount on the panel is laready planned and a 7" ipad would fit. Would just need a suitable mounting bracket, which I'm sure will be available in due course.

I also like the idea of running SD on a phone as a back up.

My trusty 6 year old Nokia still serves me well, but I'd be very tempted by the combination of an 7" ipad and iphone sync'd together for SD.

SD and a cheap Chinese satnav = Jobzagoodun.

I would still be interested in a simple iPhone navigator. The iPad can pack up due to overheating / battery / .... so having a backup would be worthwhile. As there is no way to transfer routes directly from iPad to a Windows Mobile device or to a Garmin, the obvious solution would be an iPhone...
